The Artist Session with Kristine Jackson

Join Cleveland singer-songwriter, Kristine Jackson at Edwins Too (13220 Shaker SQ) this Saturday, April 27th at 7 PM. She will be performing many of her traditional and blues tunes. $10 cover.

Kristine has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music, such as B.B. King, Tab Benoit, Joe Bonamassa Buddy Guy, Robert Lockwood Jr., Taj Mahal, and Mavis Staples, among many others. In 2019 she represented the Northeast Ohio Blues Alliance in Memphis, TN for the International Blues Competition where she placed in the Semifinals as a solo artist. Her self-produced tracks have found their way to BBKings Sirius XM radio show. 

With awards for both musicianship and songwriting, her shows are constructed to both entertain and inspire and there is something for everyone.

Ray Flanagan is a Cleveland, OH-based songwriter that writes and performs his songs with the no-nonsense attitude of a skilled journeyman. Flanagan has performed with nearly everybody in the Northeast Ohio music scene, lending his keen musical sense and guitar artistry to artists of all genres. Even though he is one of the most sought-after guitarists in Northeast Ohio, his songwriting is his true superpower.

About Evelyn Wright
Vocalist Evelyn Wright has been a professional singer for more than three decades with experience in jazz, R&B and pop. A native of Cleveland and graduate of John F. Kennedy high school, she was voted Best Female Vocalist in 1985 in conjunction with WCPN. She won the 1993 award for Most Promising Female Artist and Favorite Female R&B singer from Midwest Urban Music. Wright is renowned for her expertise and warmth. Her recordings include a live performance with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra at the Bop Stop. Wright has toured throughout the United States and Canada, performing in top hotels, nightclubs and concert halls. She also performed for First Lady Rosalyn Carter. Former Mayor Michael White officially recognized her for the entertainment she has given to the City of Cleveland.

Sam Hooper Group is a dynamic Cleveland band rooted in the blues. Originally formed when Hooper lived in Boston, the band has evolved through tours and recording in the USA and Asia to develop its own interpretation of this classic art form.

Hooper has kept the approach fresh since returning to his hometown roots in Cleveland eight years ago and performing all over Northeast Ohio. The current band is a mix of talented musicians who are old and new friends with experience in jazz, rock, funk, and blues.

Songs of Freedom, Hope, and Peace

Trinity Cathedral will collaborate with Roots of American Music, a local performing arts and education nonprofit, to present a public concert, “Songs of Freedom, Hope, and Peace”. This concert features Roots of American Music performing artists Sam Hooper and Angela Winborn performing gospel, protest songs, and uplifting anthems from social justice movements in American history.

The concert is free and open to the public, though suggested donations of $10 per person for Trinity Cathedral will be accepted.

Sam Hooper has an alluring blend of blues, rock, jazz, and funk that has thrilled audiences in China, Finland, and Japan, while his songs have been heard on TV’s "All My Children" and "The Young and the Restless.” A graduate of Florida's University of Miami School of Music and an alumni of Berklee College of Music's Songwriting Program in Boston, guitarist, and singer-songwriter, Hooper is also an experienced educator. Most recently, he joined Roots of American Music (ROAM) in Cleveland as a Teaching Artist. In this position, he leads classes of high school students in writing, recording, and performing songs together about diversity and intolerance for the STOP THE HATE program. He also teaches guitar and ukulele classes to kids in the afterschool program at Fatima Family Center.

Chris Coles' Confluence is a jazz group that turns all the rules of genre on its head. Each member of the group brings their own unique life experiences and musical influences to create an exciting sound that is accessible to all audiences, mature and young alike.

The music Chris assembled for the evening was inspired by his friends, mentors, civil rights leaders, and loved ones. The group was assembled this way to showcase the broad array of people and cross sections in the arts community. What's even better is when people from different generations can all come to a musical situation and use their language in music to say something profound as a group, hence the name of the group name, Confluence.

MLK Day Celebration at the Maltz Museum

THE MALTZ MUSEUM ANNOUNCES FREE PROGRAMS IN HONOR OF REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

The Maltz Museum announces a special opportunity for the community to come together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is Monday, January 15, 2024 to celebrate the life and legacy of the iconic civil rights activist. The all-day event is free and open to the public and features three special programs, including a keynote and book signing from Wesley Lowery, Pulitzer Prize winner, journalist, and Shaker Heights native at 1:00pm, civil rights storytelling by members of the Black Storyteller Association at 11:30am and 3:30pm, and a Stop the Hate essay writing workshop for students at 1:00pm. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Liz Bullock has been involved in music since she was old enough to talk. Starting out in choirs around the age of 5, then moving on to more contemporary programs as a teen, before too long she was gracing the most well-known stages in Cleveland. Liz has opened with her band or duo for artists such as JD Souther and Dionne Warwick. Liz works as a session vocalist, songwriter, and music therapist in the Cleveland area. Her songs combine a love for folk, indie, and pop. Her vocals draw on training in blues, jazz, and classical. ‘Where to Begin’ is her debut solo EP.

Darren Frate Group Live at Edwins Too

Join Cleveland Bassist, Darren Fate at Edwins Too Edwins Too (13220 Shaker SQ) on Saturday, September 9th at 7 P.M. He will be performing his original music with his group. $10 Admission.

Darren Frate Group music has been described as world music, jazz, and jazz fusion woven together by bass-driven grooves and improvisation. The leader, bassist Darren Frate, is a Berklee College of Music graduate. The group will be debuting new compositions for this show and works from the group's CD release "Resonance". Darren Frate (bass) will be joined by Dave Kasper on saxophones/woodwinds and Ivan George on drums and percssion.

Darren Frate is a Berklee College of Music graduate, majoring in film scoring. After college Darren recorded and toured with several acts including Mike Stern, Peter Noone, Ian Hunter, The Blind Boys of Alabama as well as many others. Darren recently received an "Individual Excellence Award" grant for 2021 from the Ohio Arts Council for music composition. Darren teaches privately as well as being an instructor at the Cleveland Music Settlement's jazz program. Composition has always been foremost to Darren Frate. with the latest release "Resonance" that came to fruition. Darren is also working on a series of solo electric bass compositions for release in the summer of 2022.

Hyperius Blake Sound Experiment live at Edwins Too

Join Cleveland-based experimental group, Hyperius Blake Sound Experiment Quartet at Edwins Too (13220 Shaker SQ) on Saturday, December 23rd at 7 PM. $10 Cover. They will explore the intersection between jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music while incorporating elements such as field recordings and spontaneous improvisation.

Arranger, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Robin Blake is based in Cleveland, OH. He strives to break the barriers of “genre” and embrace Black music as an infinite well of ideas to draw inspiration. Intersectionality, whether musical or socio-political, is a key part of his life framework.

He has been a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, Mojo Big Band, and many local bands and musical organizations as a freelance musician. Robin has been commissioned for original works by Chocolate City Comics and the Re: Sound Festival, and the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival.
