Emigrate! Bound for Cleveland

  • Terrestrial Brewing Company 7524 Father Frascati Drive Cleveland, Ohio (map)

The Immigration Story of the Irish in Northeast Ohio told through the story of Johnny Kilbane, World Featherweight Champion (1912 -1923).

Musical performance headliners are Irish punk band The Boys from County Hell and Irish Traditional Musicians - Ruairi Hurley and Ray Flanagan.

The theme of the party will be an exploration of immigration to Northeast Ohio - primarily from Ireland - at the turn of the last century.  Through music and story, attendees will learn of the story of boxer Johnny Kilbane (a child of Irish immigrants) who went on to hold the featherweight Champion of the world from 1912 to 1923 and, more broadly, will learn of the challenges faced by Cleveland’s Irish immigrant community in the early 1900’s. Along the way, current immigration realities will be touched upon as the audience gains an appreciation for the fact that – with immigration - the past clearly informs the present.
The event is free and open to the public.
