Roots of American Music : history

Since 1999, Roots of American Music (ROAM) has been connecting individuals young and old to the history and spirit of our country through traditional American music. ROAM's arts-integrated residencies and community programs serve over 25,000 individuals each year. Imparting academic content is at the core of this non-traditional teaching approach.

ROAM teaching artists are performers and educators who use folk, jazz, blues and other types of roots music to create lessons that are fun, engaging and address Ohio Academic Content Standards across many different disciplines. Students experience the sheer joy of music by singing, playing instruments, and writing songs that connect to specific periods of American history and culture.
