Jen
Maurer started playing piano at the age of 2, added flute at 11, sax
at 14, guitar at 18, bass at 26, accordion at 27, and fiddle at 31.
Her main instrument, however, is her voice. She began “singing”
immediately upon birth, and has not stopped since. Jen started her professional
music career with ragtime piano. She plays a variety of American musics
- swing with her band Boogie Mysterioso, Zydeco with Zydeco Jones, original
folk-rock with 50 Billion Galaxies, bluegrass with Kovac and Maurer,
and calypso with The Calypso Gypsies. In addition, she fronts the band
Hillbilly Idol and she is a strong solo artist specializing in the music
of the classic women blues singers of the 1920’s. Jen also hosts
the “Zydeco House Party” radio show on WAPS 91.3 the Summit
out of Akron.
