Literacy Through the Arts Academy

In July, 2010, ROAM served 140 campers and staff with 4 artistic music presentations and engaging "roots to rock workshops in the round" at the site of Holy Name Church. Workshops included dance, singing, Smartboards, and African drumming. This project was made possible thanks to a grant from Third Federal Foundation.

International Folk Festival

July 18, 2010, ROAM is represented at the International Folk Festival at University Circle, Wade Oval, by teaching artist Jack Mizenko.

Cleveland Clinic Office of Civic Initiatives

In April 2010, ROAM artists work with three classrooms of second grade students to help them write songs to accompany a play they have written on the topics of obesity, mental health, and diabetes. The beautiful Mayfield Village Civic Center is the site of the student's final performance of their own songs play!

Summer Rockin' It - Partnership with Ruffing Montessori School

Did you ever want to play in a band? Students already attending the Ruffing Montessori Summer Camp will have the opportunity to join the Summer Rockin' It Band! They'll join a Roots of American Music artist to learn the basics of Rock and Roll tunes from Bo Diddley to the Rolling Stones and The Who. Vocalists, guitarists, drummers, bassists, horns, and keyboardists are welcome. A final student performance will be showcased the last week of camp. Put on your Rock and Roll Shoes! Maltz Museum - Unchained, From Slavery to Civil Rights

On MLK day in 2010, a ROAM quartet performed for over 250 attendees at a free performance at the museum celebrating the message of freedom Dr. King shared with us. The program also linked the influence of the Jewish community on the historical development of music thanks to Professor Joe Hunter of the Jazz Studies Department at Tri-C and ROAM artist.

Lynda Bender, Director of Education at the Museum organized the event which featured, Evelyn Wright (vocalist), Joe Hunter (keyboard), Raymond DeForest (bass), and Kevin Richards (guitar). Songs performed included This Little Light of Mine, The Midnight Special, and We Shall Overcome.

High School Rock Off at House of Blues

In January 2010, Kevin Richards, Sheela Das, and Board Member Jim Henke from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum were judges at the rock off. Board member Barry Gabel of Live Nation kept the excitement going. Below, see one of the bands, Sole Prerogative from Chagrin Falls. I don't know about you, but I think plaid is back in style!
